Oh hi guys! Fancy seeing you here! – Yup, I’m back from the camping expeditions. Are you excited? You should be.

So much happened whilst I was away, but today the first thing I want to inform you about is Cooks Cafe. Oh deary me, if you can,you must go there. It’s at Cooks Beach in the Coromandel (1134 Purangi Road), so from our campsite in Whitianga it was about a 15 minute walk, a little trip on the ferry and another little walk – but it was completely worth it.

We went there for lunch on Monday and had the most amazing burgers (and foolishly ordered an accompaniment of fries) ever. I had a chicken burger and my cousin had the cheeseburger and they were STUNNING…we sat there eating them in awe.

Just to make it better, it was a warm sunny day and the outside seating was in a beautiful shady garden and from our seats we could see through a window into the kitchen where a nice young man was lovingly placing together our burgers with precision and care.

Now these burgers were so good we spent the entire journey back to the campsite talking about them and their deliciousness. They weren’t even very expensive, around $7.50 each, now if you compare that to burger king it’s pretty standard – and for a burger that was anything but standard.

So anyway, we talked about these burgers so much we convinced ourselves to go back in the morning and have them again for brunch before we hit the road back into Auckland. And so in the morning we packed up all our stuff and the tent, checked out, and headed back down to the ferry.

But this time we were distracted by the pancakes on the menu and had to make a compromise. Pancakes for breakfast, burgers for the road.

I do not regret that choice.

I walked up to the counter and requested the pancakes, with banana, bacon and maple syrup. Delicious. Until the man at the till says to me – “I’m sorry, you can’t do that”. Stunned I panic – “Yes! Yes! We can! It’s on the menu!!”. “Nope, we’re out of bacon…”

I panicked – we couldn’t do it without bacon. I said to him one more time, you MUST have bacon?! Just as I said it, a young man walked in and popped him a note – The bacon has arrived.

I was so relieved. It was meant to be. And it was flawless again. My compliments to the chef. And my recommendations to you! Try it out!
