The campsite we stayed at over New Years had a pink bracelet policy in place. This meant all the youth in the camp were required to wear pink bracelets to identify themselves. This was to prevent things like freeloading and visitors staying after hours. Anyway, it got me thinking about the different kinds of bracelet-wearers. I’ve decided there are generally three catagories (not saying everyone will fit in to one of these)

1. The Practical Wearer

The bracelet is worn for the time spent at the camp, purely to prevent trouble. Once camp is over the bracelet is snipped off and tossed out.

2. The Lazy Wearer

The bracelet is initially intended to be worn for the duration of the camping trip. Once camp is over the bracelet is forgotten, intentions to snip it off fade away as the scissors are forever just out of reach. Slowly, the bracelet wears down, the colour fades and it becomes nothing more than a twisted piece of plastic circling the wrist. One day, it may just fall off on it’s own accord.

3. The Coolness-Badge Wearer

The bracelet is put on with much enthusiasm and excitement with the thoughts of showing it to all your friends upon your return. You wear the bracelet as a badge of awesomeness. During the stay you use it to represent your ‘home-camp’ so any new friends you might make will know where to find you. After the trip you refuse to cut it off and wear it, it must be worn in front of all of your friends as proof of a good summer holiday. If you don’t have a bracelet obviously I have a better life than you, with more fun, more friends and more adventure. This bracelet is my coolness badge and I will wear it as long as I can to use as an excuse to tell people about my fantastic life. Eventually though, this bracelet will fade and no longer possess any awesomeness. Then and only then will it be removed. (But more than likely this will then be pinned up on the wall for everyone to see)
