Hey! Friday! YUS

How’s it feel to have made it to the end of another week? I think it feels prettttttty sweet.

Now I can’t remember, but I have a sneaking suspicion I never told you about my trip to Thames….This was on the pre-21st list and happened over our long Waitangi weekend, a mere day or two before my birthday (and the cut off day for completion of the list). I was madly crossing things off my list, and madly, had to do a quick road trip to Thames. So I did.

I rounded up a friend and loaded up the car and went for an awesome scenic drive around the coast. We stopped at viewing platforms to appreciate the awesome landscape New Zealand has. We stopped at a little town and went to BOTH of the markets there (seriously, they had two markets on, at the same time, like 1km apart…). We ate the fanciest cupcakes EVER and I bought a packet of peanut seeds to take home to the horticultural housemates.

We stopped at a little beach and bought home made fruit juice from two little entrepreneurs who’d set up shop there. I suspect we were their only customers but I really feel like we did our bit in encouraging their go-get-it attitude.

We drove through another town where all the letterboxes for all the houses were on the OPPOSITE side of the road. Bizarre. Imagine crossing the road to check your mail? You’d hate for it to be rush hour..

We saw a brilliant Dr Seuss tree, the likes of which I had never seen before. Turns out it’s not a tree at all, it’s more like a succulent. The one we saw was much more bobbly and Dr Seussesque than this one, but just to illustrate the point…

Anyway – there was heaps to see and I’m soooooooooo glad we took the scenic route – if you’ve got the time it’s definitely the more enjoyable journey. In Thames there was dancing and wine and dinner with the hugest clove of garlic I’ve ever chopped in my life. There was toasted sandwiches and a square kauri tree, rivers, art, icecream, sun and dreaming. It’s a really beautiful little pocket of New Zealand.

Thanks so much to my buddy Renee who put us up for the night! She’s a really lovely girl and is down there fighting for a good cause with Watchdog (keeping Coro beautiful).
