Woah baby! Home grown rock melon was had for dessert this evening. Who grows melons in their backyard? Seriously? I didn’t even think that was possible! What’s crazier? There’s another FOUR on their way. Oh – em – gee.

I am so spoilt with fruit lately, what with the passionfruit dropping it’s fruit all over the show and the strawberries going through a second-summers hot flush! What a lot of nature to be thankful for.

I’ve been thinking about nature a lot lately. I’m sure a lot of you have been watching Frozen Planet the BBC David Attenborough series that’s on at the moment. I have been (mostly because it’s on after Masterchef) and I think, because I hardly ever watch TV, when I do things hit me hard. Last nights episode was all about global warming and the effects at the north and south pole. If you didn’t see certainly hit up ol’ faithful TVNZ on demand.

The other day actually, we watched another documentary, about the Sun. The whole time I just couldn’t stop remembering that ad for Sun Rice, don’t know if you’ve seen it but it’s certainly on my list of terrible advertising. They’re trying incredibly hard to make it seem like rice is a pool side food, much like a sausage sizzle or a bag of chips. I can only speak for myself when I say I have NEVER seen people eating bowls of rice at the pools. Correct me if I’m wrong but I imagine it’s a bit of a hassle to boil up some rice on one of those pool side BBQs.

Anyway, the Sun documentary I watched. It was very interesting, and I feel like I learnt a lot of new things. For example the cause of the northen lights and the distance the suns light reaches. They also pointed out a rather interesting correlation between the heat the sun is giving off and the river water levels. I’m just learning more about this little ol’ planet we live on every day.

And today I found out you can successfully grow a consumable rock melon in your backyard in the middle of Auckland, NZ.

The world is wonderful.
