It’s taken me quite some time, sitting here staring at the screen, trying to decide which salutation to use. I’ve given up, I’m not using any. It was holding me back and stopping me from writing anything for you. And that’s just not OK.

So now that we’ve skipped the formalities I need to let you know, it’s my Daddy’s birthday today, and my Daddy is wonderful. Seriously.

He’s spent 20 years of his life being my Dad, now that’s commitment.

My Dad made fish and chips for dinner every Saturday, to the point where I wondered if that was all he could cook. BUT then he would go and blow all those preconceptions out of the water and make hash browns and eggs for breakfast too. He taught me how to make fish and chips. And how to make hash browns out of left over mashed potatoes. (I recommend adding some fried onions for maximum delicious factor). A vital lesson in any childs life.

When I was younger and there was a spare bedroom in our house he took it over with his love of trains. He had the most amazing set up of tracks going around the walls, which he’d decorate with hand made trees and little houses to resemble the country side. If you wanted to get in the room to watch and play too there was a section of track you’d have to take out first which went across the doorway. Or if you were as short as me you’d just walk under it. He had all sorts of little trains running in there, but specifically he had a little Thomas the tank engine (especially for us kiddies).

Eventually though, he was forced to move the trains out, when my sister moved home from university, and he endeavored to cram them into a shed. It didn’t really work, and only led to him branching out into the garden with bigger tracks and trains.

He also taught me to drive, the brave man. And helped me change the windscreen wipers on my car just last week (because the petrol station man couldn’t cope). All round, he’s just a pretty snazzy guy – I love my Dad! :)
